Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s counsel and former minister for law and justice Barrister Farogh Naseem’s licence to practice law has been restored by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). The former minister had filed an application for reinstatement of his licence, as he was representing General Qamar Javed Bajwa in the Supreme Court on Thursday in a case pertaining to extension in the army chief’s tenure. It is pertinent here to mention that Farogh Naseem was barred from presenting arguments in the aforementioned case on Wednesday in the top court as the PBC had raised objection that his law practicing licence was suspended. On the other hand, the cabinet division has issued a notification – applicable from November 26 – regarding the acceptance of Farogh Naseem’s resignation following the approval by President Dr Arif Alvi. According to the notification, the president accepted Farogh Naseem’s resignation as federal minister for law and justice on advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The number of members of the federal cabinet has reduced to 48 from 49, and of federal ministers to 24 from 25 after Farogh Naseem’s resignation. The number of ministers of state is four, advisers is five and special assistants to the PM is 15.
