The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) Friday approved three development projects worth Rs 3.17 billion and referred one mega project valuing Rs 4.06 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.
Federal Minister for Planning Development and Reform and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar chaired the meeting.
The projects approved by the CDWP included schemes in devolution and area development, education and mass media.
In the devolution and area development sector, the CDWP approved project worth Rs 520.114 million titled ‘Khyber Area Development Project Phase 2’. The project will focus on elimination of poppy cultivation and other illicit trades in the area by introducing high-value crops and through alternate means of livelihood. It will make the area accessible to the local administration by construction of rural roads.
The CDWP recommended two projects in education sector with the total proposed cost of Rs 6,657 million. The first project worth Rs 2,600 million will focus on improving human development indicators in Pakistan under the sustainable development goals. The second project titled ‘Establishment and Operation of Basic Education Community Schools in Country’ worth Rs 4,057 Million was referred to the ECNEC for further approval.
The CDWP approved one project in mass media sector. The Rs 47.471 million project is titled ‘Technical Up-gradation of Radio Station Multan Under Official Development Assistance Program of Republic of Korea’.
In addition, one position paper worth Rs 1,215.6 million was also approved in the CDWP meeting.
